There is significant development in the studies on natural hazards due to the wider implementation of new sensing devices and technologies for prevention and emergency response to the various disasters like landslides, avalanches, earthquakes, floods, droughts, extreme temperatures etc. At the same time the EU and national policy on disaster risk reduction put on the scientific agenda the need of detailed and precise information about the spatial distribution and intensity of the observed most devastating hazards and vulnerability of the European countries to theirs impact. The smart devices help in the collection of information on the hazard events and serve the systems of early warning to operate effectively. The role of geoinformation technologies in the process of mapping and assessment of the hazard, vulnerability and risk from natural hazards is of basic importance for different management practices, including prevention and reduction of the related disaster risk. Smart technologies have key role in the process of hazard communication, public awareness and preparedness. Physical and human geographers, geologists, meteorologists, civil engineers, geophysicist, IT and GIS experts, ecologist and environmental planners are closely engaged to provide working solutions for disaster risk reduction and human security. This session provides good opportunity to all of them to share their experience, achievements and smart solutions for management of the risk from natural hazards.
We aim in this session to bring together scientists who works on the following topics:
The session is co-organized by the Science Research Center for Disaster Risk Reduction – UNWE
Planned output
The conference papers can be published in:
Peer-reviewed book in Springer series on Key Challenges in Geography
Special Issue in European Journal of Geography
Special Issue in Journal of Bulgarian Geographical Society
Special Issue in Journal Problems of Geography
Looking forward to welcoming your contribution to this session!
