The papers addressed to this session are expected to enlighten questions related to the interaction between smart technologies and studies in Hydrology. The collection of data for hydrological variables, hydrological extremes and water quality depends on implementation of wide range of different kind of smart equipment. It is represented by different sensors, displays and computing devices which have the capability to networked each other and beyond, to be self-organized, to provide services and to manipulate or publish complex data through the Internet. Smart technologies provide the user’s information for better understand and control on the observed phenomena. Use of geoinformation technologies for processing and modeling the increasing flow of data provide new knowledge about the spatial and temporal features of the hydrological processes. Various web-based applications increase significantly the access to scientific information and enhance the public awareness to the current environmental issues related to water quality and extremes and theirs effect on the living environment and human health. We are challenged now to understand how the use of smart technologies change our understanding about water and how to apply theirs capacity in different actions for reduction of water scarcity, hydrological droughts and floods.

We aim in this session to bring together scientists to discuss theirs achievements on different aspects of climatology like :

• Water observations technics
• Hydrological response to climate change
• Hydrological extremes and early warning systems
• Water information and communication
• Water quality
• Web-based hydrological applications
• Smart water governance
